Unexplained Infertility

It can be both a relief and confusion when you’re placed in the ‘unexplained infertility’ category. When there is nothing to fix it can leave you feeling helpless and the feeling that there’s nothing more to do other than ‘keep trying’.

You could find yourself even ‘wishing’ something was wrong so you can get on and fix it. Unexplained infertility doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t anything you can do and or that there isn’t anything that needs fixing, it really only means that the testing that specialists can perform today is not able to define what it is that is slowing nature down.

When there is no medical condition preventing you from getting pregnant then the only thing left to do is to do everything. Everything means all the things possible to support your reproductive health. I’ve posted about this time and time again; lifestyle choices, diet and exercise choices, weight and stress levels do affect your fertility. Just one foot out of place so to speak and another month goes by wasted.

So if you’ve been given the ‘unexplained infertility’ diagnosis then it really can be seen as good news. There are no sinister medical conditions lurking behind the scenes. The obvious things that should be working are, so where to from here?

Back to doing everything; where do you begin? First cab off the rank is always quitting smoking if you smoke. I won’t cover all the details here as to why, it’s obvious; smoking drastically reduces your chances of getting pregnant. There’s nothing unexplained about that.

Quit drinking coffee. Yes, just quit. Don’t fuss over how many grams of caffeine you can or can’t have, it isn’t worth it. Switch to a mild herbal tea or better still purified water and move on. Caffeine has been shown to decrease conception rates by as much as 50%. So why would anyone risk halving their chances of getting pregnant by drinking coffee or eating too much chocolate, also a caffeine source.

Drinking alcohol is another thing that won’t help you get pregnant. Reduce to zero if you can. All these lifestyle factors add up and if you or your partner are doing one or more of these things then your unexplained fertility could now be explained.

If you’ve been diagnosed with unexplained infertility there is something stopping you from getting pregnant even despite your best efforts. Some couples get pregnant at the drop of a hat and some don’t. Everyone’s bodies are different: different genes, different hormone balance, different lifestyles and different levels of stress. All you can do is everything to support your fertility. Starting with the things I’ve mentioned will go a long way toward that.
